What you’re most looking forward to for 2016:
Progressing with our Savernake Capital fund. Getting some more rest. The new Formula 1 season.

What you’re least looking forward to for 2017:
Probably not getting much rest, periods of sideways low volatility.

What to watch out for:
US policies, infrastructure and inflation.

What will be the theme for the year:
Back to Europe focus, debates on rate rises. Expect a few good trends but they won’t last long, there will be more chop, expect another 2014 / 2016 style situation with short bursts of volatility and volume.

Any other thoughts:
I definitely need to read more and talk to more people in 2017. Amazing how much you learn when you listen or read from others.

The high probability of a recession when the new US Presidency term starts. “Eight of the last 11 recessions have coincided with the first year of a presidential term, and since 1920, recessions during a new president’s first year have been three times as common as in other periods.” CNBC

What to watch out for:
GBP lower to 1.1400 or until FTSE reaches 7500.

What will be the theme for the year:
Euro being talked down to parity and how many US interest rate hikes there will be.
