In Five Lessons Learnt This Week, find out how to become a pro chef overnight, how to avoid getting lost ever again, how you could have been making millions as an 8-year-old and why you should never try to eat eight burgers in one go…
1. How to become a pro chef
Can’t cook? Won’t cook? Your culinary woes are about to come to an end thanks to Masterchef winner Tim Anderson, who has spent two years developing a pair of robotic arms that can whip up any meal with the skill and flair of a professional chef – and will even do the washing up.
The current prototype only uses the hob (but that doesn’t stop it from whipping up a mean crab bisque) but the developers are currently planning a commercial version that will link to the fridge, oven and dishwasher so you’ll barely have to step foot in the kitchen to convince the world that you’re a culinary god (or goddess).
If it makes a good Sunday roast, we’re sold…

2. How to never get lost again
Just enlist the help of the latest satellite navigation technology they’re calling the ‘Human Sat Nav’. This (slightly creepy, if we’re honest) piece of tech ‘zaps’ users’ legs with electrodes to guide them in the right direction, allowing people to navigate without looking down at a map or smartphone.
The electrodes stimulate the sartorius muscle, which runs from the knee to the top of thigh, gently prompting users to change direction. Early plans for the tech include helping sportspeople, fire fighters and older people who have become lost to find their way, while there have also been suggestions that it could be used to guide crowds around busy football stadiums and similar places.
Which all sounds very cool, if a little like something in a sci-fi movie that doesn’t go entirely to plan…

3. Be careful where you fall asleep
A lesson Seattle airline worker knows all too well after taking a nap in a cargo area beneath an airplane cabin – and waking to find the plane taking off.
The Menzies Aviation employee managed to alert the pilot by banging and screaming from the front cargo hold, and the plane made an emergency landing back in Seattle airport after just 14 minutes of flight to drop off the unexpected cargo. The ramp agent was retrieved from the pressurised, temperature-controlled cargo hold thankfully unscathed, and the plane continued on its way.
Brings a whole new meaning to taking a spontaneous trip…

4. What you should have been doing when you were eight
What were you doing at eight years old? Nothing worth shouting about, probably. And you probably never thought twice about it until now – but you could have been making your fortune. Meet 8-year-old Charli and her 5-year-old sister Ashlee, who make a pretty impressive $127,000 a MONTH from YouTube videos sharing their baking tips.
The videos (covering everything from cupcakes and brownies to healthier fruit popsicles) make their money from advertising – and that $127,000 is after YouTube takes their cut of revenue. Over 29 million people watch the girls’ tutorials every month and contribute to the nice little trust fund they’re going to have built up by the time they’re adults.
We can’t make you overnight YouTube sensations (sorry) but we can give you a tip or two when it comes to trading! Our Forex Trading Course has all the advice, trading plans, indicators and strategies you need to trade profitably, whether you’re a newbie or a market veteran.
5. Don’t try to eat 8 Quarter Pounders in one go
An unnamed City trader took on the dare as an initiation ritual at commodities broker Marex Spectron – and it didn’t go too well for him. Senior colleagues at the firm reportedly stoked hundreds of pounds on whether the unfortunate trader and a co-worker could complete the challenge.
Video footage of the 23-year-old attempting the challenge, which starts with a desk full of burgers and ends with the poor trader vomiting into a waste bin, has gone viral this week, though someone took pity on the trader and pixelated out his face. A spokesman from Marex Spectron confirmed that the individuals involved had been spoken to and that a reoccurrence would be taken very seriously. Which is probably just as well…
