We’ve been eating our way through all the Easter treats on the market to find the best for you (it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it). We reckon these are the most egg-cellent (sorry) chocolate treats you’ll find…
The eggs-tra big egg
Hotel Chocolat Ostrich Egg
Bigger isn’t always better. Except when it comes to Easter eggs (or chocolate in general, really). Then it’s definitely better – and the Ostrich Egg from Hotel Chocolat is probably the biggest egg on the market this year, with over 1kg of chocolate from the extra-thick egg and 27 chocolates stuffed inside (including pralines, caramels, champagne truffles, salted caramel and billionaire’s shortbread). There’s no better way to overdose on chocolate this Easter.
The Ostrich Egg costs £75. Get your hands on one here.
The double egg
Marks & Spencer Giant Golden Lattice Egg
M&S’s best Easter offering this year is this enormous golden lattice egg, with a smaller egg inside (just in case the giant outside egg wasn’t enough of a chocolate fix). The two eggs make up a total of 1.5kg of shimmering milk chocolate. Hand-piped and finished with gold lustre, it will make a very impressive Easter gift – in fact, it’s almost too pretty to eat (Almost. It’ll be tough, but we’re sure we’ll manage). It’s not just an Easter egg…
The Marks & Spencer giant golden lattice egg costs £40 and is available here (or from any M&S store).
The gin-infused egg
Prestat London Gin Truffle Easter Egg
An Easter egg that’s just for adults, this Prestat egg is made from milk chocolate flavoured with lemon oil and filled with ganache truffles covered in white chocolate. And the secret ingredient? A homage to a London gin and tonic – a touch of gin flavouring and popping candy to add a bit of fizz. Hands off, kiddos.
The Prestat London Gin Truffle Easter Egg is priced at £15 – get it here.
The golden egg
Heston from Waitrose Golden Egg
The must-have Easter Egg for grown-ups this year is this premium offering from the man behind bacon-and-egg ice cream. It’s a great big dark chocolate egg with a golden sheen, and as an extra surprise it’s filled with mandarin ganache mini eggs in an edible paper nest. Want one? Best get down to Waitrose quick – only 8,000 of these eggs are being made, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Heston from Waitrose Golden Egg costs £20 and is available in Waitrose stores or to order here.
The coffee egg
Marks & Spencer ‘The Coffee Lover’s Egg’
One for the caffeine junkies, this egg from Marks & Spencer combines two of our favourite things – coffee and chocolate. A coffee flavoured milk chocolate egg with hazelnut nibs, and extra dark chocolate Costa Rican coffee beans. And if the egg doesn’t give you your chocolate/coffee fix, the Italian coffee hazelnuts that come with it definitely will.
The Marks & Spencer ‘The Coffee Lover’s Egg’ is available at all M&S stores for £8.
The Easter breakfast
Choconchoc’s Chocolate Egg on Toast
For something a bit different from your traditional Easter egg, go for this white and milk chocolate ‘fried egg’ on toast, complete with chocolate cutlery. Easter weekend is probably the only time it’s acceptable to eat chocolate for breakfast, so make the most of it!
Choconchoc’s Chocolate Egg on Toast will set you back £12 – get it here.
The tower of eggs
Asda Extra Special Hot Cross Egg Tower
Chocolate. And hot cross buns. In a tower. There’s nothing about that description that we don’t like. The two most traditional Easter favourites have been combined to make this tower of hot cross bun-flavoured chocolate eggs. It’s the perfect treat to share around this Easter. Or just to eat all to yourself. We’ll leave you to decide that one.
Asda’s Extra Special Hot Cross Egg Tower costs £10 from your nearest Asda store.
The eton mess egg
Thorntons Eton Mess Easter Egg
Something for the dessert lovers in your life, this Easter egg is made of white chocolate and stuffed with tangy raspberries and meringue pieces, inspired by an Eton Mess. It’s a quirky twist on the traditional Easter egg and ideal for white chocolate lovers. And if Eton Mess isn’t your dessert of choice, choose from Caramel Cheesecake or Hazelnut Brownie.
Thorntons dessert-inspired Eton Mess Easter Egg costs £10 (reduced from £15 – bargain!) and is available here.
The salted caramel egg
Amelie Chocolat’s Salted Caramel Truffle Easter Egg
Salted caramel is still everywhere – if you’re a fan, then this is your ideal Easter treat. Choose from a marbled or plain milk egg (and look how thick they are!) filled with ten liquid salted caramel truffles. You won’t want to share this one…
Get Amelie Chocolat’s Salted Caramel Truffle Easter Egg here for £24.99.
The Marmite egg
Marmite Flavoured Chocolate Easter Egg with Cashew Nuts
Marmite notoriously divides opinions, but if you love the yeast extract spread, give Marmite-infused chocolate a try. The hollow milk chocolate egg is flavoured with Marmite and topped off with a packet of Marmite-flavoured cashew nuts, solving your sweet and savoury cravings all in one go.
Get the Marmite flavoured Easter egg from Amazon.co.uk for £17.94.
