This week’s Littlefish Loves is all about Navdy (also known as “Google Glass for your car”) – the world’s first Heads-Up Display made for any car.
Basically, what Navdy does is sync your phone to your car and display all the information you need (satellite navigation, text messages, engine data and so on) via a high-resolution protector onto a transparent screen, so that you can view all the info you need without ever taking your eyes off the road.
You can communicate with the device via voice commands and hand gestures – it’ll reply to text messages, make phone calls, find directions and even send Tweets for you, all without you having to look down to fumble with buttons or touch screens.
The technology behind Navdy has been used in fighter planes since the 1950s and has been making tentative waves in the automobile market over the past few years. But until now, you had to buy a brand new (and pretty pricey) vehicle in order to benefit from the technology – not any more. Navdy is available for pre-order now for $299 (expected retail price when it hits the market is $499) and it’ll turn whatever vehicle you’re already driving into a futuristic fighter-jet inspired ride.
As well as being seriously cool, Navdy is aiming to make driving safer for everyone… and that’s something we can all get on board with.
