1. Mophie Space Pack
What is it? A storage battery case for iPhone 5/5s
How much? $149.95
What does it do? When we heard about this lovely little piece of technology, our first reaction was “why has no-one thought ofthis before?” It’s a ridiculously clever iPhone case that not only gives you 100% more battery life but also an extra 32GB of storage – that’s an extra 16,000 photos, 14 hours of video or 9,000 songs.
Why should I pack it? If you’re going to be trading on the go, the extra battery life means your tech won’t fail you at a crucial moment, and the extra storage gives you room for all your must-have trading apps and software. And even if you’re not, a standard iPhone battery probably won’t last a long haul flight. With this, you’ll be covered, and the extra songs and videos will keep you entertained.
2. Kobo Aura
What is it? An e-reader
How much? $150
What does it do? If you still haven’t got round to getting yourself an e-reader, you’re missing out. With the Kobo Aura, you can take 3,000 books on holiday with you and read for up to 2 months on a single charge. It also has a ComfortLight feature so you can keep reading when they dim the plane lights for landing.
Why should I pack it? This is a simple one – so you can download our list of books every serious trader should have read and read them wherever you go.
3. Able Planet Linx Fusion Noise-Cancelling Headphones
What is it? Headphones
How much? $349.99
What does it do? Okay, we were selling them a little short when we said they were just headphones. These are pretty special – they’re the world’s first multi-sensory active headphones. They use the same technology as touch screen gadgets to simultaneously transmit sound through skin, bone and ear for sound quality like you’ve never heard.
Why should I pack it? Besides the fact they’ll give you the best sound quality of any headphones on the market, they’re also conveniently noise-canceling. So you can drown out the noise of the baby crying behind you on the plane, and get on with trading or relaxing.
4. Dish Anywhere Hopper Transfer
What is it? An app
How much? Free, but you need a Dish subscription
What does it do? The Dish Anywhere Hopper Transfer is for the TV addicts among you. It’ll give you access to live TV, thousands of On Demand movies and anything you’ve recorded- wherever you are in the world. You’ll need an internet connection to watch live, but once an episode is recorded, you can watch it offline anytime – perfect for long flights when you can’t get online.
Why should I pack it? If you can’t live without your daily fix of the news and you’d pack your TV in your suitcase if you could. Or if you can’t bear to miss Eastenders. We’re not here to judge.
5. Lavazza Espressgo
What is it? A mobile coffee machine
How much? $220
What does it do? It’s an on-the-go coffee machine that can whip up a real Italian espresso in less than 3 minutes, wherever you might be. It just needs a 12 volt cigarette lighter to power it up. It uses coffee ‘pods’, so there’s no mess and it’s easy to transport for whenever you need a caffeine fix.
Why should I pack it? Okay, if you’re off to a five-star hotel, you might not need this. But if you’re a camping enthusiast or festival goer who can’t start a day without a cup of coffee, it’s an essential.
What is it? An international Wi-Fi hotspot
How much? £Free with a 12 month 1GB contract at £20.00 per month- different plans available
What does it do? Keeps you connected even if you wander off the beaten track. With a Globalgig device, you can tap into a Wi-Fi hotspot anywhere in the world. You can connect up to 5 devices together, so even if you’ve packed all your gadgets, you don’t have to worry about racking up data roaming charges.
Why should I pack it? Anyone who’s tried to keep on top of the markets while travelling will know that losing your connection at a crucial moment can cost you, big time. Pack this so you know you won’t miss out. (Although if you really can’t tear yourself away from your trading screen, even on holiday, you might want to heed Littlefish’s advice here). It’s also worth having so you can Tweet your holiday snaps from wherever you are and make your followers jealous.
7. Tylt Energy 2K
What is it? A travel charger
How much? $30
What does it do? This little device does a lot more than you might expect. One minute, it’s an AC adapter for your phone, tablet, or pretty much any USB-powered device. The next, it’s an external battery that can charge your gadgets on the go. You can charge its battery and use it to charge your device at the same time, and it’s so tiny it won’t make a dent in your weight allowance.
Why should I pack it? Because it’s no good packing your smartphone, tablet, e-reader, camera and who knows what else if they’re all going to run out of battery on day one. This will keep you charged up and ready to go.
